MySpace Message from Ryan 17.06.08

hi.
on the train. firmly entrenched in the festival season at the minute. what a picturesque start to proceedings it's been too. primavera on the beach (see exclusive topless pics below!) in barcelona with sonics and devo and malkmo, then up to loch ness followed by a 666 mile drive across scotland and england to cornwall. the drive of the beast. well shippo anyway. have to say a special thanks to the crowd at cornwall for making our first headline festival so great. loved it.
middlesboro and coventry i salute thee also.
Isle Of Wight was a bit of alright (wink).
i wasn't attacked, just called an indie kid which is pretty much the same thing these days.
i wrote a song with john boy during a week at his house called victim of mass production. but that was ages ago. i love it. more when he gets back.
i hate thieves.
i mean, who will remember Buttercup?

MySpace message from Gary 04.06.08

So we are going to be back out there after our 6 week break (longest we may have ever had, incidentally) for some festivals and a few one-off club dates. Starting with a not-so-well-kept-secret support show at the Shepherds Bush Empire with our friends Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks on Thursday the 5th of June, where we are planning on playing a full B-sides only set for the first time. I am in Milan as I type playing roadie/ligging on tour with the Jicks and I can tell you that they are laying waste right now, so put on too much damn cologne and your best brown pinstripes and come on down for a spellbinding evening!
After that is a one-off show at Middlesborough Empire on the 7th of June....ahhh Middlesborough. feel like we haven't been there since the pre new fellas days of the self-booked, play anywhere for diesel money days. It is also home to the worlds worst McDonalds, but the shows were always memorable.
Then a bunch of festivals blahblahblah - 'tis the season YOU SEE? and then another one-off show at the Kasbah in Coventry on the 12th of June. I should mention that we will be bringing some hot new talent as well as friendly old faces as support on these shows, but you will just have to wait and see for now.
bye for now

MySpace message from Ross 23.05.08

Hi Everyone,

So our myspace got hacked the other day, i don't know exactly what this means, but all i know is that the outcome means we lost all the music / pictures and over half our friends. I have been informed though that we didn't get any pink oboes etc posted from us, so that's good news... We haven't really used our myspace much, but I realise it is handy to keep people up to date with what we are up to...

EG - I'm currently planting vegetables back in Yorkshire - there you go, interesting.

Anyways, from now on we are going to keep a closer eye on this sort of thing and take control of our myspace ourselves, as we have tended to neglect this sort of stuff in the past.

Basically, expect more new stuff from the band in future, starting with this:

Here is a video of us performing "Be Safe" for the very first time with Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), recorded live at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York on our last US tour! This is also now live on our myspace page!

If you know anyone who may have been a friend on the myspace, please could you forward this message on, to let them know its now back up and running again, and it would be good to have them back!

See you at the festivals

Ross 23.09.07

Thanks for the Birthday thread everyone.
Didnt really get up to much, had a great gig in Saint Lo last night though, so that did me fine.
Gary and Ryan also bought me a knife, which is nice of them. We all then watched Terminator on the bus and had a few drinks. We kept watching the opening credits over and over again- was fun.
Have a day off in Mechelen today, which is really boring as its a Sunday, and every where is shut.

See you all on the UK tour, we are all looking forward to it.

Ryan - 28.02.06

Alright cockers (god, haven't used that one in a while...)
Well I suppose the point of this post is just to say thanks to everyone for such a great tour this time around, after the amount of touring we've done this year it was amazing to finish on my favourite one yet...It reminded me that we have the best fans and I'm not saying that to kiss your arse or owt.

It wasn't without incident either, and despite the food poisoning I got in London and the 'stab wound' I got in the same town (more on that later) I wouldn't change a thing, except for the cancelling of Birmingham which was completely out of our hands. I fought with the promoters for ages and just said "fuck it, let's do it" but it didn't happen. If no-ones ever seen me angry before you should/shouldn't have seen me in the Irish Centre...

So anyway, thanks for everyone who's been in touch asking how I am and thanks for your concern over my general well-being.The truth is I am: pretty good. After the NME Awards I had to go to hospital where I recieved 15 stitches before being discharged, after which I returned to carry on with the night. There was a lot of friends there that I hadn't seen in a while so naturally after laying on my front for 3 hours on heavy painkillers giggling I wanted to go for a pint or 2. Unfortunately I lost a pint or 3 after 20 minutes back there and had to have another ambulance called. It turns out I had to be stitched internally as well so after a few scary moments (blood tests to make sure I hadn't stabbed my kidney etc) I had another 15 inside and 13 outside and was discharged for good.
After flashing the wound in Liverpool and Leeds and an allergic reaction to the Elastoplast however I'm now infected and on anti-biotics and codeine which leaves me in a permanent daze all day! Ah well, the stitches are out on monday so then we can get on with writing the new album.

In the meantime, here's some videos that our Gary shot on my phone in the hospital. They are pretty shite quality and short 'cos you're not supposed to have mobiles on in the hospital but I thought you might be interested to see them. On one I'm singing It Was Only Love if you listen carefully, we was bored and decided to use the time to shoot a music video. If NME don't print it tomorrow I'll post up a graphic polaroid of the wound too that one of the student doctors took for 'research purposes'...it's pretty nasty.

Love, as always, until the next time.

Gary - 08.01.06 On the Indie Music Awards no show

Right, not that I have to justify myself but anyway...
I'm not into back-slapping, awards ceremonies are not really my bag, and to be honest, I never felt like part of the leeds 'scene' whatsoever until going to the Village Green/Rebellious Jukebox where there was no hint of pretention whatsoever, and at the time, a very healthy community.
We were always more interested in the side of things being done by people like Gojonnygogogogo and Squirrel records...not the cliquey leedsmusicscene.com stuff, which I seem to remember having a large and heated debate over whether or not me and my brothers are drug addicts and how much longer we would live etc.
Although we have made a lot of friends in the leeds independent community since, I just didnt fancy it after things that have happened in the past.
Or I'm a rockstar wanker. Make up yr own mind.

Ryan - 04.10.05

Alright mi' loves it's Ryan.
We're in Sweden at the moment with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks who are all very nice. But that is not the point! We are shooting our next video on TUESDAY the 11th of OCTOBER in London so if you want to be in it you only have to do 2 things: Get an outfit of foul, 90's trendy style together and wait to see details of when and where it's going to take place posted up on here. Honestly, it's going to be lot's of fun this one. If you want to do any fucked up stunts too to 'star' in the video feel free: anything nasty and tacky will be greeted with open arms.
I'm going to go watch Steve now and get pissed, but I'll be thinking of you, obviously...
Love, Ryan

Ross - 23.09.05 On his birthday messages

Alright everyone,
Cheers for all your messages, brought a tear to my eye, and put a lump in my throat.
Had a good night out in Paris yesturday, maybe wasnt as oiled as i would have hoped(but still fairly oiled), but i got tired quickly because you had to pay more to sit down with your drink in this crappy bar i was in, so i picked the cheaper option to drink more and stand up, add the jet lag- i was knackered. Still a good night though. Anyways hope to see you all soon, and thanks again.

Much Love Ross.x

Gary - 12.09.05 On Edwyn Collins

not bad? hes a fucking genius
get 'a casual introduction' every track on it is so much better than just about anything i've ever heard.
domino dont deserve the orange juice compilation, they are the greatest band that ever existed. inventors of indie rock too.
underrated is the way forward

Ryan - 21.08.05 On the Edinburgh stage collapse

I had nothing against the stage invaders whatsoever, healthy bit of anarchy and all that...I was just a little concerned at how heavy handed the security was being, a couple of enthusiastic teenagers are hardly a match for pissed off, huge men. The reason Gary walked off too was to make sure they weren't being manhandled outside because there was a lot of commotion. At the end of the day, I think everyone there was there to have a good time and not pose danger to anyone else and we wanted to make sure you was being looked after...Shit myself when the stage went down mindst!
Undoubtedly one of my favourite gigs ever xxxxx

Gary - 20.08.05 On 'creative editing' in the Enemy

I saw the piece yesterday and I feel bad for the way you were portrayed. the tagline was totally misleading to the point where it made everything that came after it sound pretty bad. the quotes etc from us came from a long taped interview where we were shown photos from the tour and had to explain what was going on, i dont mind most of the stuff that was used in the explanation of the photo that you were on, (eg. that the last time i saw you you fell on yr arse) because what we said was all true. There were quotes that were made about other people that were mixed into that bit too, which made it sound like we were referring to the same person all the way through, so it was misleading, for example we were taken out to all these calebrity haunts by another friend of mine, but from reading the piec eit sounds as if wwe were referring to you. We had nothing but good things to say about you and any of the people that we met in America, but lets face it, who wants to read that? it would just be like looking at someones holiday snaps or something.
Also, all the timings etc. were added later, I was as surprised as anyone else to see that.
Bottom line is, this is the sort of thing we have to get used to i guess, I like to think that the people that know us or our band at least trust us enough to give us the benefit of the doubt on these things.
by the way, this is not an apology, just an explanation.

Ryan - 04.08.05 On the 2005 tour support

Alright everyone,
I know people have been asking for a while now who is going to be supporting on our headline dates, so I'm really pleased to say that it will be JEFFREY LEWIS and BLACK WIRE.
I'm proper excited about this, it took us ages to get Jeffrey Lewis because we had to sort out getting him over from New York etc. but if you haven't seen him already you're going to love it, seriously...
Also our mates BLACK WIRE will be opening for us again so it's going to be an amazing tour!
Can't wait to get out and see you all.

PS this doesn't apply to the Newcastle show tomorrow

Gary - 16.07.05

alright everyone
just got back from berlin, flew straight there from koko with no sleep, barely slept last night and have to fly to boston usa in a few hours. like the walking dead at the minute....
nice one to everyone at koko, it was an amazing experience for us, everyone singing along and that. ace. melt was cool, played on fucked up gear, went swimming in the lake, got caught in the storm and hung out with our mates bloc party so it was a strange surreal day.
i should go sleep now, but just wanted to say thanks.
see you when we get back

Ryan - 02.07.05

Greetings from Holland, we stayed out all last night, I had to give a girl a cog back to her house on a bike at 7 in the morning it was well harsh. Got a police caution from a bobby with a gun. Just had a banana split. Drink next I think...

Gary - 27.06.05 On 'Hey Scenesters'

I'm not going to go into it on here, but....
I have never written a song about Pete (Doherty), or Dominic (Masters I presume) for that matter.
Hey Scenesters certainly isnt about Pete. I like the fella, and Hey Scenesters is pretty derogatory, so yr barking up the wrong tree there.

soz boz n all that

Welcome
